House Impeaches President Trump

Shortly before his upcoming State of the Union, President Trump is coming face-to-face with another scandal. The deeply divided House of Representatives voted on March 23, 2018, to impeach the President for High Crimes and Misdemeanors. The resolution was submitted by Congressmen John Yarmuth (D-Ky.)  and Dan Lipinski (D-Il.) and touches on a number of scandals that have embroiled Trump during his first 15 months in office.

The five Articles of Impeachment will next go to the Democratically-controlled Senate for trial. Trump will be the third President to undergo such a trial, following in the footsteps of Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton.

The first Article argues that Trump's relationship with Stephanie Cliffords, known professionally as Stormy Daniels, and his subsequent payment to her as a part of a non-disclosure agreement constitute "an illegal campaign contribution" and is therefore a violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of President.

The second Article focuses on Trump's relationship with now fired FBI director James Comey, who the Articles say was removed from his position because he refused to close to alter the bureau's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

The resolution further states that Trump received improper benefits from foreign nations such as Saudi Arabia, Georgia, and Argentina, along with a number of other alleged violations of the Foreign Emoluments clause of the United States Constitution.

The Articles finally accuse the President of violating the Domestic Emoluments clause by maintaining stakes in his business and his properties, which he has frequented since become President. The resolution alleges that "By accepting emoluments from the United States in the form of payments for goods and/or services at businesses in which Donald John Trump has an ownership interest, Donald John Trump violated article II, section 1 of the U.S. Constitution."

The Cube has not yet received comment from the Congressman involved with this resolution or the President himself. This story will get updated as more evidence becomes known.
